The world of Solar Neighbor  takes place on Earth approximately 100  million years in the future. Human life on earth was ended by a massive meteor strike in the year 2195. The strike caused a restructuring of the earth's geography. Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, storms, and raining ash nearly ended life on earth. A chunk of the even earth broke off and formed a second moon. In an instant humanity on earth was ended leaving only those that were cryogenically frozen in orbit, or the colonies on the original  moon that were fighting a war against the Loams (the native inhabitants of the moon).

Over the following decades without the support and resources from earth  humanity was eventually defeated in the war against the  loams and the fire of human life on the moon was extinguished. When humanity ended on the moon, so did the technology to travel between the earth and moon. The earth and the moon were once again isolated in the vastness of space and  those cryogenically frozen  in the pods were  the last humans in the universe. 

The reason there were cryogenically frozen humans drifting in orbit is because back when humanity existed on earth rather than let terminally ill patients die, they would freeze them and launch them into orbit in hopes a cure would be found in the future. The experiment proved to be somewhat unsuccessful in that prior to any patients being retrieved and cured the meteor struck, ending life on earth so no patients were ever cured.

Prior to their demise humanity did extensive research and  experimentation in an attempt to prolong their existence. Humans were aware of the existential threats that were present living on earth. Prior to the strike they were well aware that cataclysmic life ending events had happened in the past to this planet and could indeed happen again. They did extensive animal research fusing human DNA with many different creatures to try to create more resilient breeds of humans. Little did humanity know that an evolutionary great great great great etc grandchild of a creature created from the DNA of a sea turtle, and a human, along with some genetic enhancement would not only outlive humanity by millions of years but also become the most prevalent species on earth. These creatures were called the skillipeas.

When the meteor hit nearly all life on land was ended in a moment. Oceans flooded across the entirety of the continents and new island formations were made. Life existed almost exclusively under the water once again and once again over millions of years life took its steps out of the water evolving into an array of creatures and plants more bizarre than had ever existed on earth before. The skillipeas were the first to step foot out of the water. For millions of years they evolved with the creatures around stewarding the earth and living in harmony with its creatures.

100 million years after the asteroid strike, and Earth is thriving. The films Solar Neighbor and Skip & Henry take place on earth at this time. The film Solar Neighbor introduces us to that world with stop motion and tells a story about a human named August who falls from one of these pods onto earth and is cared for by the skillipeas and a loam named Plato. 

Skip & Henry is a slice of life microshort about a solitary skillipea and his snailpup ice fishing and playing guitar.

While life on earth seems to be thriving after 100 million years, unfortunately life on earth's original  moon is plagued with struggle, oppression, and violence, and life on earth's new moon is only just beginning.  Those stories however, are yet to be told…
