The Solar Neighbors

The Skillipeas
Standing at a height of roughly 1m and weighing around 80 kilograms, these creatures boast tough skin and buoyant, yet solid shells. While primarily dwelling on land, the skillipea possess the remarkable ability to hold their breath for up to 18 hours, making them at ease in water. Known for their kind-hearted and playful nature, these captivating beings form medium to large groups that work collectively to guarantee the survival and overall joy of the species in warm tropical environments. They are the primary inhabitants of Mikinaak Island.

Plato
Meet Plato, a mysterious extra-terrestrial residing on Mikinaak Island. Belonging to an unknown species, Plato was discovered as a baby and raised by the Skillipeas as one of their own. As Plato matured, they developed exceptional skills as both a gardener and a warrior. Each day Plato tends to their lush gardens, harvesting a variety of fruits, vegetables, and medical herbs, providing food and medicine to the creatures of the island.
August
This is August, a human born with a terminal heart condition, in a time where medical technology falls short in finding a cure. As a result, August is placed in cryogenic freeze and launched into space, preserving their life until a future time when the condition might be treatable. Unbeknownst to August, drastic changes occur on their home planet during their frozen state, leading to the extinction of human life there. After drifting for an unknown duration in space, a fortuitous collision with an asteroid dislodges August's pod, bringing them back to their long-lost home where they wash up on Mikinaak Island, a tropical island full of creatures beyond Augusts wildest dreams.

Manta Paus
This small whale boasts elongated fins and impressively large blowholes, which serve the purpose of expelling non-digestible parts of their diet. What makes the Manta Paus truly fascinating is its unique feeding behavior - it exclusively consumes the eggs of Skillipeas. The shell and nourishing fluids from these eggs sustain the Manta Paus, and as a remarkable twist, the baby Skillipeas are eventually ejected from the blowhole. This discovery reveals a close symbiotic relationship between the Skillipeas and Manta Paus, where both species respect and protect one another.

The Philo's
The Philo is a remarkable extraterrestrial entity, embodying a unique fusion of fungi and sentience. Evolving from a self-aware mushroom species, it adopts a bipedal form and sustains itself by consuming decaying plant matter. Remarkably, Philos lack a sense of fear or pain, placing them at the lower echelons of the interstellar food chain. Despite their vulnerability, these playful beings exude a jovial demeanor, offering a delightful presence. However, it’s worth noting that Philos, if one is so inclined, can also be considered a delectable fungi snack.
